This sculpture its inspired by Medusa. In Greek mythology was usually depicted as a winged female creature with a head of hair consisting of snakes, sometimes depicted as very beautiful. Medusa was the only Mermaid who was mortal; therefore, her killer, Perseus, was able to kill her by cutting off her head. From the blood gushing from her throat sprang Chryssaor and Pegasus, her two sons by Poseidon. The severed head, which had the power to turn to stone all who saw it, was given to Athena, who placed it on her shield.
