Steropes Artwork

€450.00

This artwork its inspired by the Cyclops Steropes. In Greek mythology, the Cyclopes are a trio of formidable deities featured in Hesiod's "Theogony," born to Uranus (Heaven) and Gaia (Earth). This triad consists of Brontes, Steropes, and Arges. Renowned for their immense power, they were initially imprisoned in Tartarus by Uranus, who feared their strength as a threat to his reign.

Later, they were freed by Cronus (Saturn) and the Titans, who sought their assistance in overthrowing Uranus. However, once in power, Cronus and the Titans, fearing their power, again confined the Cyclopes in Tartarus. It was only with the rise of Zeus and the Olympians that the Cyclopes found their liberation.

The Cyclopes played a crucial role in the Titanomachy, the epic battle between the Olympians and Titans. Under the direction of Hephaestus, they forged formidable weapons in the fires of Mount Etna, including Zeus's thunderbolts, which were instrumental in the Olympians' victory.

In recognition of their aid, Zeus entrusted the Cyclopes with the task of overseeing the imprisoned Titans in Tartarus. In return, they equipped Zeus with his signature thunder and lightning. They also provided Artemis with her hunting bow.

The Cyclopes met their end at the hands of Apollo, who killed them to avenge the death of his son, Asclepius, at the hands of Zeus.
